Kent opener Zak Crawley named in England ODI squad for three-match West Indies tour

Kent opener Zak Crawley has been named in England’s ODI squad for next month’s tour of the West Indies.

England will play three ODIs in early December and Crawley is part of a much-changed 15-man squad.

There’s been a major overhaul of the England squad on the back of a dreadful World Cup campaign which saw the holders start as one of the favourites in India.

England finished seventh in the group stages and missed out on the semi-finals after winning just three of their nine matches.

Former Tonbridge School pupil Crawley, who played 39 Test matches for England, captained a ‘weakened’ ODI squad in a home series against Ireland at the end of the English summer.

After weather wiped out the first game, Crawley was dismissed for a second-ball duck at Trent Bridge as England won by 48 runs. Crawley then made 51 in game three at Bristol but the game was wiped out due to rain with England scoring 280-4 in just 31 overs.

It means Crawley’s ODI career stands at five games, scoring a total of 148 runs at an average of 37 with two half-centuries and a strike rate of nearly 115.

Just six players are retained from the World Cup squad by England, including captain Jos Buttler.

England will play three ODIs, starting at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua on December 3 and 6 before finishing at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on December 9. That series will be followed by five T20I matches, which doesn’t include any Kent representaton.

England ODI squad: Jos Buttler (captain, Lancashire), Rehan Ahmed (Leicestershire), Gus Atkinson (Surrey), Harry Brook (Yorkshire), Brydon Carse (Durham), Zak Crawley (Kent), Sam Curran (Surrey), Ben Duckett (Nottinghamshire), Tom Hartley (Lancashire), Will Jacks (Surrey), Liam Livingstone
