Kent name Toby Radford as Alex Gidman’s successor as batting coach while Robbie Joseph returns to the club as new bowling coach

Kent have named their new batting and bowling coaches ahead of the 2024 season.

Toby Radford replaces Alex Gidman who moved on from the batting coach position to become England Women’s assistant coach in October while former Kent right-arm bowler Robbie Joseph has returned to the club as their new bowling coach. The 41-year-old replaces new Kent director of cricket Simon Cook.

Cook said: “We’re really pleased to have Toby and Robbie join us, and complete our coaching set-up.

“Both will work closely with myself, head coach Matt Walker and coaches across our talent pathway to help us continue to produce cricketers for Kent and England moving forward.”

Joseph, who had enjoyed a stint with Gloucestershire in the same position, made 110 appearances for Kent between 2004 and 2011 and in 2014, in which he took 230 wickets across all formats.

He had been Gloucestershire lead bowling coach since last November after beginning work with the Bristol-based county from July of that year and now moves back “home” to Kent.

Radford previously has worked as head coach of both Middlesex and Glamorgan, and he was batting coach for West Indies’ senior team during their T20 World Cup success in 2012 and the Test series success against England in 2019.

The Welsh 52-year-old played a role in setting up the West Indies High-Performance Centre and the Middlesex Academy.

He has previously worked with the England Cricket Board as a specialist batting coach following a county cricket career with Sussex and Middlesex in the 1990s.
