Kenny Miller praises Rangers for Celtic friendly snub as Ibrox hero relieved Sydney Super Cup protests will stop

Kenny Miller says he's delighted Rangers U-turned on the Sydney Super Cup before their derby clash with Celtic this weekend.

Because the prospect of a large-scale version of the fan protests at Dundee don't bear thinking about.

Supporters briefly halted the Dens Park clash as they threw toilet roll and other items onto the pitch in protest of the overseas friendly with Celtic.

Fan groups had expressed vocal discontent at the thought of playing their bitter rivals in Ange Postecoglou's homecoming tour and today the Ibrox board finally succumbed and pulled out of the tournament.

Miller's former teammate Allan McGregor was left furious at the Dundee protests and appeared to brand the fans taking part "f****** a*******s."

And Miller is pleased the club drew a line under the unfortunate saga before they face Celtic on Sunday and avoided a repeat performance.

He told Sky Sports : "Even look at the Dundee game, Rangers were chasing to get back into the game. They were losing initially and they were going for a late winner.

"When the game gets broken up in those situations, you saw what Allan McGregor thought of them.

"If it had affected the game on Sunday it would have been a big, big moment.

"It's not good with all these stoppages and there was a danger it could have continued until November.

"The timing is everything isn't it? The fans will now be coming here and that should be clear from their head.

"They can focus on getting right behind the team for an absolutely huge Old Firm game, one of the biggest for a number of years."
