Kennedy surpasses Harris as most successful British Supersport rider

History was made at Snetterton at the weekend when Jack Kennedy won his fourth British Supersport Championship to become the most successful rider ever in the 600cc class.

The Dubliner came into the season with three titles already under his belt, taken in 2018, 2019 and 2021, and with 49 race victories to his name, the latter already a record. The three titles matched the tally achieved by the late Karl Harris, the Sheffield rider taking victory in 2001 for Suzuki and then again in 2003 and 2004 for Honda Racing. But victory on Sunday – his 13th of the season – saw Kennedy finally better that tally with title number four wrapped up with three rounds and six races to go. After taking a dominant win in Saturday’s Sprint race by almost nine seconds, the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha rider was made to work a lot harder on Sunday by Bradley Perie who took the race lead from the start. Kennedy soon put the pressure on and after the lead exchanged hands on a number of occasions, he finally made a move stick just after half race distance, going on to take the win by 1.4s, his 62nd career win in total. “It was another amazing weekend on the Mar-Train Yamaha and after qualifying on pole position in mixed conditions, I got the hole shot in race one and two,” he said. “I had a good few battles with Bradley who kept me honest in both races but we managed to bring home the win and Championship title. I’m absolutely delighted to give Mar-Train this Championship after we missed out so narrowly in 2012.” “And I’m absolutely over the moon to add another Championship to my record as well, which sets me aside as the most successful British Supersport rider in history.
