Kemar Roofe in Rangers exit link as Derby County 'weighing up' move for Ibrox striker

Kemar Roofe has emerged as a shock loan target for English League One side Derby County as the Rams look to rebuild following administration.

The Pride Park side are under the stewardship of new owner David Clowes and chief executive Stephen Pearce with Liam Rosenior in interim charge following the departure of former boss Wayne Rooney, who has since taken over at American outfit D.C. United.

And, according to a report in the Sunday Mirror, Rangers striker Roofe is on their radar as they look to strengthen in a bid to get back into the Championship at the first time of asking. The 29-year-old netted 16 times last season, including two in the Europa League which included the vital strike against Braga in the quarter finals at Ibrox, but has struggled with injuries.

Roofe started his career at West Bromwich Albion before moving to Oxford United and then Leeds United which was followed by a spell at Anderlecht in Belgium. Steven Gerrard signed Roofe, capped five times for Jamaica, two years ago.

The frontman was plagued by injuries in Belgium and has often been on the sidelines in his time at Rangers with the player forced to sit out the pre-season trip to Portugal. But given his contribution when fit, Van Bronckhorst would still need to replace Roofe if he was allowed to leave.
