Kellie Harrington to begin Olympic defence on Monday as Dean Clancy first to fight

Kellie Harrington begins the defence of her Olympic title on Monday as she looks to win back-to-back medals at the Paris Olympics.

The Tokyo 2020 gold medallist is seeded third in the lightweight (60kg) division and will fight the winner of Italy's Alessia Mesiano and Gizem Ozer from Turkey for a place in the quarter-finals.

Along with Harrington, five other Ireland fighters received byes in the Olympic draw, while Dean Clancy is first of the ten boxers into the ring as he takes on Jordan's Obada Alkasbeh on Saturday for a place in the last 16 of the 63.5kg division.

Tokyo bronze medallist, Aidan Walsh, must also fight in the preliminaries on Sunday morning as he goes head-to-head with France fighter Makan Traore for a place in the last-16 of his 71kg category.

Grainne Walsh must also fight for a place in the 66kg last 16 and will take on Hungary's Anna Luca Hamori on Sunday afternoon.

Second seed in the 75kg division, Aoife O'Rourke boxes for a place in the quarter-finals on Wednesday evening.

The two-time Olympian will meet Poland's Elisabeta Wojcik, who she has beaten in four previous encounters.

Michaela Walsh - sister of Aidan and another two-time Olympian - will fight in the 57kg division and takes on Bulgaria's Svetlana Kamenov Staneva of Buglaria on 2 August.

Jennifer Lehane takes on 54kg eighth seed Yuan Chang of China on Tuesday for a place in the last eight, while Daina Moorehouse makes her Olympic debut in the 50kg division against the seventh seed, France's Wassila Lkhadiri, next Thursday.

Jude Gallagher also received a bye through the preliminaries and with face Carlo Paalam from the Philippines on Wednesday, while heavyweight (92kg) seventh seed Jack Marley takes on Poland's Mateusz Bereznicki on Sunday.
