Kazakhstan’s digital economy: Fintech growth, cashless payments, and cybercrime prevention

Kazakhstan is rapidly embracing digital finance, with 90% of transactions now cashless, driven by a tech-savvy population and the Digital Kazakhstan programme.

The number of fintech startups has quadrupled since 2018, with centres like the Astana Hub supporting their growth through training and resources.

Companies like Kaspi are expanding access to digital payments, credit and basic services. To combat rising cybercrime, Kazakhstan is working with the Council of Europe's Octopus project to improve its financial investigation capabilities and strengthen its cybersecurity infrastructure.
