Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano: Irish legend makes surprising statement

Irish boxing legend Katie Taylor has described her superfight with Amanda Serrano as ‘50-50’ heading into next weekend’s event.

In one of the biggest fights in the history of women’s boxing, Katie Taylor will defend the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight titles against Amanda Serrano in front of a lively crowd at Madison Square Garden. The two women have been tipped to square off for a few years now and after plenty of talk, the pair will collide on April 30 for all the marbles.

Serrano made a name for herself most notably at featherweight but with nine major world titles across seven different weight classes, her success across a variety of divisions is clear for all to see.

Taylor, meanwhile, has her eyes on cementing her legacy – and she clearly understands just how big the task ahead of her is.

“It’s definitely a 50-50 fight. I think that a lot of people will have me, and a lot of people will have her before the fight. I love being involved in these kinds of fights.

“It’s years and years later we’re still talking Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier kind of fights. I think years and years later from this fight people are still going to be talking about Katie Taylor versus Amanda Serrano.

“I feel very privileged to be in this position and to be an inspiration to the next generation and to have those young girls look up to me. It’s a huge responsibility as well and I want to set a great example for these young girls coming up. I want to give them hope and I want them to know thy dreams they have in their hearts can be possible.”
