Katie McCabe scores stunning goal for Arsenal Women after bizarre set-piece routine pays off

A bizarre corner-kick routine for Arsenal paid off as Katie McCabe scored a stunning goal against Liverpool in the Women’s FA Cup.

The two sides met at Prenton Park in the fifth round of the prestigious tournament.

Arsenal triumphed 4-0, benefitting from a Rhiannon Roberts own goal before Katie McCabe, Caitlin Foord and Kim Little all hit the back of the net.

McCabe’s goal, a powerful volley from the edge of the penalty box, was the pick of the bunch.

It was not just her stunning shot which caught the eye, however, with the build-up to the goal also attracting significant attention.

Arsenal won a corner in the 30th minute, with Steph Catley stepping up to swing the ball into the Liverpool penalty box.

A number of her teammates ran into the box, before continuing their run past the goal, out to the edge of the box, and back to the penalty spot.

As one of the runners, McCabe dropped back to the edge of the box, and was subsequently left unmarked as the ball came out to her from a Liverpool clearance.

She then had the time and the space to score one of the best goals seen this season.

Even the commentator was left surprised by the set piece, having thought it had failed just seconds before McCabe’s right foot connected with the ball.

“Arsenal with a set piece, which doesn’t come off… OR DOES IT,” he screamed as the ball flew into the back of the net.
