Katie-George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal earn bronze at Worlds Championships

Katie George Dunlevy and Eve McCrystal earned the second Irish medal at the 2023 UCI and Para-Cycling World Championships in Glasgow by winning bronze in the women's tandem.

The duo claimed the medal after coming out on top against France in Friday's bronze medal ride in a time of time of 3:28.792, which was 0.409 seconds quicker than their opponents.

"I'm emotional, really really relieved. I was just so nervous going into that race," said Dunlevy.

"We didn't have a great ride the other day and we were working on a few things yesterday in the 1km (time trial) - we were just trying to deliver what we did yesterday today. We just fought to the line and we were able to get that bronze medal. I can't quite believe it really."

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics pair's success follows Ronan Grimes' bronze in the men's C4 individual pursuit on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Ireland's women’s team pursuit squad missed out on the next round of competition after a ninth place finish in the qualifying round, although hopes of reaching the Paris 2024 Olympics remain alive with points gained and top ten places up for grabs for the Games.

"We've got some vital qualification points there and put a bit of a gap or a buffer in between the teams that have been around us for those final qualification points. I’m excited for the Madison, that’s Monday so I have a few days to recover from the team pursuit and I’m riding that with Lara so excited to do that," said squad member Alice Sharpe.
