Kamaru Usman vs Leon Edwards 2: Conor McGregor's tweets after UFC 278 thriller

Kamaru Usman was dethroned in the early hours of the morning UK time by Leon Edwards at UFC 278 to become the new welterweight champion in Salt Lake City.

It appeared as though Usman had done a number on Edwards once again to retain his title, however, a killer knockout blow late on allowed Edwards to finally become a world champion, achieving a childhood dream of his against one of the greats of the sport.

The fight was completely one-sided after the opening round, meaning the knockout was mandatory if Edwards was to leave the Octagon with a maiden world crown.

He caught Usman by surprise with a brutal kick to his head, leaving him sprawled out cold on the canvas to make history in America.

Edwards has become only the second ever British UFC champion, following in the footsteps of Michael Bisping, giving Britain a new hero in the Octagon.

Whilst the world of UFC were joining in, celebrating a huge, landmark night for the sport, Conor McGregor couldn’t help but get some digs in at his rival on a painful night for him.

Notorious did of course pay homage to Edwards, showing his appreciation for his performance in the Octagon, however his attention was mainly on the Nigerian.

The pair have famously had plenty of beef, with the Irishman convinced that Usman would be no threat whatsoever to him.

Taking to social media, some of McGregor’s tweets included: “Not even a relatively high kick. Fully leaned into his own death. One leaned his way to victory. Another leaned his way to death. Crazy sport, I love!”
