Kalvin Phillips fires warning to Man City ahead of Leeds United fixture

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has fired a warning to Manchester City ahead of their trip to Elland Road this weekend.

City continue their push for the Premier League title as they head to Yorkshire on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s side will be in action after title rivals Liverpool, meaning they could find themselves off top spot in the league when the game kicks off.

With just five league games remaining, City still hold their fate in their own hands — although they know they’re likely to have to keep up a perfect record to hold off Jurgen Klopp’s side. Leeds will be the latest side looking to put a dent into their hopes.

Although still in a battle for survival, the Whites have given themselves an important five-point cushion heading into the business end of the season. New manager Jesse Marsch has overseen a five-game unbeaten run to lift his side away from the relegation zone in recent weeks.

They continued their unbeaten stretch on Monday with a goalless draw at Crystal Palace, with Phillips making his first start under Marsch after an injury-plagued season. And the England international had a warning for City as Leeds prepare for a tricky run-in towards the end of the campaign, with Arsenal and Chelsea also on the way in May.

"We’ve got tough fixtures [ahead]," Phillips told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "From now until the end of the season it was always going to be tough for us.

"You know what you’re getting when you play against Leeds and you know that you’ve got to work as hard as possible and that’s what we do. We can grind it out against City in the next game.
