Jury shown imitation firearms, gas masks and canisters allegedly used in caravan murder plot - live trial updates

The trial of a wife, the former solider she was having an affair with, and a second military veteran accused of plotting to murder the woman's husband is continuing..

Christopher Mills was attacked by two masked intruders carrying imitation handguns who burst into the Mills' holiday caravan in west Wales in September last year in what was initially reported as an armed robbery. But the two raiders, Geraint Berry and Steven Thomas, along with Mr Mills' wife Michelle Mills were subsequently charged with conspiracy to murder.

The trio deny the allegation and are on trial at Swansea Crown Court.

On Tuesday, jurors were shown the imitation firearms recovered from the Mills’ caravan in the Argoed Meadow caravan park, as well as the gas masks and canisters found in Berry’s and Thomas’ rucksacks.

The court has previously that the Mills were spending the night of Friday, September 20, last year in their caravan on the site in Cenarth, near Newcastle Emlyn, when Berry and Thomas - dress in black and wearing balaclavas and carrying realistic-looking handguns - bust in.

Mr Mills grappled with the intruders and disarmed them before the two men fled. For the latest court stories sign up to our crime newsletter

Michelle Mills rang the police to report an armed robbery, and firearms officers along with dog units and a helicopter were dispatched to the scene.

Berry and Thomas were located hiding in bushes near the caravan park and arrested. In their rucksacks officers found gas masks and black cable ties along with a "fake suicide letter" purportedly written by Christopher Mills and addressed to his wife.

Texts conversations found on Berry's phone led to the arrest of Michelle Mills at her home near Llanelli the day after the caravan incident
