Arsenal have completed the £38m signing of Ajax and Netherlands international defender Jurrien Timber as the Gunners continue to reinforce their squad ahead of another tilt at the Premier League title. He is a versatile young defender, who will fit into our system and provide our squad with so much added quality. »Jurrien is a young player, but has already achieved so much. He has experienced what it’s like to go to a major international tournament on more than one occasion, as well as the trophies he has won with Ajax.
We look forward to welcoming and integrating Jurrien into the squad." The defender made 44 appearances for Ajax last season at centre back. From that position, Timber scored two goals and created two more. In a rather disappointing season for Ajax, in which the perennial title contenders finished third, Timber enjoyed a personally successful season.
