Jurgen Klopp urged to hand Liverpool star new deal to aid Harvey Elliott

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been urged to give one of his stars a new deal to help with the rise of Harvey Elliott at the club.

The 18-year-old was a regular starter for Liverpool at the start of the season before picking up a horror ankle injury in September, although he has hit the ground running again upon his return five months later.

Elliott is expected to become a star at Liverpool, and the youngster is surrounded by experience to help him climb to the very top.

And it's because of this that Klopp has been urged to push for a new deal for James Milner, and keep him in and around the club.

Milner has been excellent for Liverpool since arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City in 2015, and the midfielder has been there every step of the way in Klopp's journey.

However, his deal expires at the end of the season, and there is growing speculation that Milner could leave Anfield in the summer, although Tony Cascarino believes that it is imperative for Liverpool's youngsters that he remains at the club.

Cascarino thinks that it's essential for the likes of Elliott that they have a player like Milner as a mentor, and the former Chelsea star told talkSport : "Steven Gerrard when he was a young man coming through, Gary McAllister joined Liverpool, I think he was 35 when he joined and he was fantastic for Gerrard.

"I think the influence of Milner will be on Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones. And Jordan Henderson would be a similar influence.
