Jurgen Klopp tells Manchester United how they can get top-four race 'pretty much done'

Jurgen Klopp has admitted Liverpool's hopes of a top-four place would be 'pretty much done' if Manchester United win their two games in hand.

Liverpool kept their feint hopes alive by beating Brentford 1-0 at Anfield on Saturday, Mohamed Salah scoring the only goal. Six straight wins in the league have seen Klopp's side climb into fifth, with home around Anfield they can make another late charge for Champions League football.

The gap between them and United is now just one point, but Erik ten Hag's side have two games in hand which could increase the gap to seven points with just three games left.

Asked if his Liverpool side can still make top-four, Klopp said: "Of course, if we imagine they would [slip up]. But I don’t think they will, we will be there and we would really regret that. But if United win their two games in hand and then they are seven points away, it is pretty much done.

"People also forget Brighton, and if they win all their games - and the way they are playing that is absolutely possible - they will finish above us. It is a very interesting period and it’s more exciting than other teams want, but for us it is good."

United's first game in hand comes at West Ham on Sunday afternoon, handing them a chance to pull four points clear of Liverpool. Newcastle face Arsenal in the earlier kick-off, and defeat for the Magpies would allow Ten Hag's side to climb into third with three points in London.

Ten Hag could welcome Alejandro Garnacho back into the squad for the trip south, fresh from the Argentinian penning a new five-year contract. However the match is expected to come too soon for both Scott McTominay and Raphael Varane.
