Jurgen Klopp in Scotland blunder as Liverpool boss claims June fixture pile up is for 'money reasons'

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hit out at Scottish FA chiefs and claims the national team's packed June schedule is for "money reasons".

But the Anfield gaffer got his facts wrong when he alleged Steve Clarke's side will play six friendlies during the summer.

Scotland do have a packed schedule following the domestic season but every match is a competitive fixture and the manager this week urged FIFA and UEFA to lighten the load.

The World Cup play-off semi-final against Ukraine was scheduled to be played at Hampden next week but moved to June due to Russia's ongoing invasion, followed by a potential final against either Austria or Wales.

The Tartan Army then have four Nations League games - two against Armenia, one versus the Republic of Ireland and another clash with Ukraine, which could be in doubt.

Klopp was asked about the demands on Liverpool's players, with Scotland captain Andy Robertson in his ranks.

“I think Scotland plans six friendly games in the summer,” said Klopp.

"So not all of them are for the purpose that they go to the World Cup and they are better prepared. It’s for money reasons.

“I understand that, but England has four games in a summer when for the first time for ages, there is no tournament.

"What do we do? Oh good, we use the time and put in some games.

“That’s the world. UEFA plans a new tournament with what? 32 teams? 36 teams? 58? I have no idea but a lot more. I didn’t even know that Europe had that many countries! But they all now play at the Euros, so more games.

Scotland skipper Robertson will be just one of many of Klopp's star's that will be away on international's duty once the English Premier League season reaches a climax.
