Jurgen Klopp in glowing Calvin Ramsay assessment as he outlines path to Liverpool breakthrough

Jurgen Klopp admits Calvin Ramsay might have to spend some time with the Liverpool Under-21s before he can be thrown into the Anfield first team. But the German reckons it won't be long before he makes his senior breakthrough if he keeps up his current trajectory.

Ramsay joined Liverpool from Aberdeen for a Pittodrie record £4million in the summer but he's had to bide his time with a back injury limiting his involvement so far. He's back on the mend now though and has been training with the top team hoping to earn his debut in the weeks ahead.

Klopp admits he may have to be a little more patient as he continues his rehab from injury. But with Liverpool facing a gruelling 13 games before the season shuts down for the World Cup, there is every chance Ramsay will get some involvement before then.

Klopp said ahead of their clash with Brighton: "Calvin is not ready to play but over the moon he's ready to train now. It's really good and he's training, training, training. There will probably be a point he will play for the under-21s because we play now all of the time - that's fine.

"An outstanding talent. We scouted him in a lot of games and he did exceptionally well at a young age. A real player, he's really involved in everything. A real talent. I'm really excited about him. He had a back problem but now I've seen him two or three times training, but it's three sessions.

“Now I know much more about him as a boy - outstanding, well-educated, confident in a really good way. The start of his career has had a little interruption but it's better now than next year. We're through this and now we have to give him a good chance to have the best possible career.”
