Jurgen Klopp agrees with Man City star Erling Haaland over Liverpool FC jibe

Jurgen Klopp agreed with Erling Haaland after Trent Alexander-Arnold's incendiary comments drew a response from the Manchester City striker.

Liverpool and City have provided the defining rivalry of Pep Guardiola's time in English football and there has been plenty of unsavoury incidents off the pitch to accompany the thrilling football and trophies that have been served up. Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold fuelled the fire again ahead of Sunday's meeting by suggesting that Liverpool's successes meant more 'because of the situation at both clubs, financially.'

Pep Guardiola wouldn't dignify the comments with an answer but Haaland bit back, saying that Alexander-Arnold wouldn't know what it feels like to win the Treble. City teammate Ruben Dias also joined in, pointing out that big clubs should focus on themselves.

Klopp was asked about the comments in his press conference on Friday and while he backed his player he admitted that Haaland was correct to say that City had enjoyed experiences that Liverpool had not reached.

"The club is special to us. It's not special to other people, we cannot change that. I'm not really interested," the Liverpool manager said. "It's just how [Alexander-Arnold] feels and how we feel, and I have no problem with that. I'm pretty sure Trent told his respect [of Man City] as well."
