Julian Alvarez's childhood memory of iconic Sergio Aguero goal inspired his Man City journey
Julian Alvarez has revealed how watching fellow countryman Sergio Aguero's Man City heroics inspired him to play football in England.
Aguero is a legend at City, having scored 260 goals between 2011 and 2021, including the unforgettable last-minute goal that clinched their first Premier League title in 2012. When Aguero scored that historic goal against QPR, Alvarez was just 12 years old and honing his skills in his hometown of Calchin.
Even though it happened thousands of miles away, Alvarez says it was a day that all football fans in Argentina will never forget. And Alvarez says seeing the love City fans had for Aguero sowed the first seeds of a dream to one day play football in England himself.

"I remember that moment well, because for Argentina it was a huge moment as it was Kun who scored. And to win the Premier League title in the last seconds was huge for City," he told City's website in their feature reflecting on the impact of Argentinians on City.
"I remember watching it with my family at home. I think it was lunchtime in Argentina and we were watching it, I remember shouting at the TV when he scored!
"Seeing everything my fellow Argentines have achieved here, and managing it in another country, seeing that the people here love you so much and now we can see the statue that Aguero has here at the Etihad Stadium.
"It pays tribute to the number of goals he scored here, all the titles, the recognition he was given. You see that and it makes you want to try and do the same."
Manchester City has a strong connection with Argentina, with many players having successful times at the Club.
