Jubb overcomes adversity to forge reputation as one of Britain's best young tennis talents

Paul Jubb is the latest up-and-coming talent on the British tennis scene, but 'Jubby' has followed a different path altogether from many of his peers. The talented 22-year-old — who is on the LTA's Pro Scholarship Programme, the highest level of support for players aged 16-24 — has had a long and winding route to a second Wimbledon appearance this summer. His father, Shaun, who was a serving soldier, died when he was an infant and his mother, Jacinta, died when he was just eight years old. Amid this tragic backdrop, Jubb first picked up a racquet the age of five but even at such an early stage in life his natural talent was evident.«In my first year of primary school, I started playing in an after-school tennis club,» said Jubb, speaking at the 2022 cinch Championships at Queen's Club.

«The coach who ran the sessions saw something in me and I was allowed to play the local club and I just progressed from there really. »When I was young, I just played purely because I enjoyed it. I never thought about getting to the level I'm at now back then.

«It was for fun until I was 15.
