Journalists say ‘creative’ Matt Targett impressed v Burnley
Newcastle United enjoyed a 2-1 win over Burnley on Sunday afternoon, relegating the Clarets from the Premier League, and Matt Targett was one of many players who impressed. The 26-year-old started at left-back and was effective at both ends of the pitch.
No Newcastle player had more interceptions, no player blocked more shots, no player created more chances, no player had more successful dribbles and only two players had more touches over the 90 minutes, so it wasn’t a surprise to see Targett by praised by journalists.
Dominic Scurr of the Shields Gazette gave Targett a player rating of 7/10 and said he made a ‘crucial’ header off the line to prevent a Burnley goal while delivering a ‘solid performance’ at Turf Moor.
Max Parsons of 90min gave the 26-year-old a player rating of 7/10 and said he was ‘creative’ down the left flank while being ‘alert’ defensively. Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live gave Targett a player rating of 8/10, praising his clearance off the line.
Against Burnley, Targett had 58 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 71.9% of his 32 passes, created one chance, whipped in one cross, had three tackles, made two interceptions, blocked one shot, made two clearances and had one successful dribble.
