Journalist suggests Conte could land Tottenham's next Ledley King by signing £27m-rated PL star

Tottenham target Marc Guehi has the ability to “grow into a Ledley King figure”, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The £27m-rated defender enjoyed an exceptional first season at Premier League level with Crystal Palace, which has led to Antonio Conte’s side exploring the possibility of signing him this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham have an early interest in the centre-back, who joined in an £18m deal from London rivals Chelsea last summer.

Centre-back is one position that Conte is hoping to strengthen this summer, having asked the Spurs hierarchy for six summer additions to build a squad ready to compete in Europe and the Premier League.

Guehi only has one year experience in the top-flight, but made a huge impression at Selhurst Park, where he started all-but two games in the league as Patrick Vieira’s side finished 12th.

The 21-year-old’s fine form hasn’t gone unnoticed, either, with Gareth Southgate handing him a first England call-up and then maiden cap soon after in the victory over Switzerland back in March.

And Jones reckons the Tottenham faithful would “love” the idea of signing Guehi, who he compared to ex-Spurs captain King.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “If they turned to another option and Guehi was somebody they identified, he’s definitely got the ability to grow into a Ledley King figure.

“He’s had an unbelievable start to his career. I’m sure Spurs fans would love to have a young guy go in there that they can really get behind and see grow as a Spurs figure through the next decade.”
