Journalist says Tottenham would "love to get" £54m-rated "phenomenon" as big twist emerges

Tottenham would “love” to sign Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni this summer amid a fresh twist this week, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The £54m-rated defender had emerged as Antonio Conte’s number one defensive target and recently held talks over a move to the Premier League.

With Conte hoping to build a squad ready to compete in the Champions League and Premier League, the Spurs boss has turned his attentions to his former side.

Having already secured the services of Ivan Perisic on a transfer, Conte is now hoping to convince Bastoni to swap Milan for London and join his revolution at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And according to Sky Sports, Bastoni, who won Serie A while playing under Conte in 2020-2021, has held talks with Tottenham, with Fabio Paratici keen on getting most of Spurs’ transfer business over the line before the start of pre-season.

Bastoni, described as a ‘phenomenon‘ by Serie A expert Conor Clancy, was quizzed about his Inter future following Italy’s win over Hungary on Tuesday, but kept his cards close to his chest.

He said: “I am an Inter player. I have a two-year contract with Inter. The club has not communicated anything to me. I go on vacation after the national team, and then I start again with Inter.”

Since then, his agent confirmed Bastoni would be staying at the San Siro, before a fresh twist emerged on Wednesday night when it was claimed that Tottenham hadn’t given up and could try to use Davinson Sanchez as part of a deal, as per Italian reports.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “They’d love to get him, there’s no doubt about that, but the big question they didn’t know the answer to was, does he want to leave Italy at this stage?
