Journalist reveals NUFC 'definitely' now 'ready to offer' return for 'sensational' SJP favourite

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that Newcastle United are ‘definitely’ now ‘ready to offer’ a return to St. James’ Park for Gini Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum’s move from Liverpool to PSG has not quite worked out as he might have hoped.

The central midfield player has never really had a consistent run in the side, playing the full 90 minutes just eight times in total so far this season.

The Ligue 1 giants have also been knocked out of the UEFA Champions League by Real Madrid, in a trophy that still deserts the club despite their new riches.

Speaking to The Transfer Tavern, O’Rourke has revealed that the North East club are ‘definitely’ now ‘ready to offer’ a return to Tyneside for Wijnaldum in the summer:

“But I think a move to the Premier League one would definitely be something he’d be interested in and I’m sure Newcastle will definitely be among the clubs ready to offer him that chance to come back to England.”

Bringing Wijnaldum back to the Magpies would certainly be a popular choice among the Toon Army, given how well he did in his only season at the club, despite their relegation from the Premier League down to the Championship.

The Netherlands international scored 11 goals and supplied five assists from the middle of the park, as he played in every single game of their top-flight campaign (Transfermarkt).

Moving to Liverpool, Wijnaldum then went on to win both the Champions League and the Premier League, as Jurgen Klopp hailed him as simply ‘sensational‘ during his time at Anfield.

Not only would he bring over a winning mentality needed to fulfil the new owners’ ambitions, but the 31-year-old would also offer more competition for places in Eddie Howe’s squad.
