Journalist now says Lampard system "may not suit" key Everton star as much as under Benitez

Everton are more of a threat with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but Frank Lampard’s system may not suit him as much as Rafael Benitez’s did, claims journalist Paul Brown.

The 25-year-old has not made much of an impact since Lampard came in, partly due to injury and illness, but Brown believes the Toffees still look more dangerous when he is on the pitch.

Not great, but no Everton player has, really. Under Lampard, the Merseyside club have lost their last four league games, leaving them in a relegation battle.

Calvert-Lewin is yet to find the back of the net since his new boss’ arrival, and a lack of firepower in the team overall has seen the Premier League outfit plummet.

In the English striker’s defence, it has been a real stop-start season for him, which has undoubtedly contributed to Everton being one of the lowest scorers in the top flight this term.

He managed to score in each of the Toffees’ first three league games under Benitez, so you have to wonder how the club’s campaign would have gone had he not been sidelined for a large chunk of it.

It is clear injury, the team’s form and possibly the change in manager have impacted Calvert-Lewin, but Brown believes Everton remain more of a threat when he is playing.

Discussing the £40.5m-rated England international, Lampard and Benitez, the Daily Star journalist told GIVEMESPORT: “The system and the style has changed a little bit under Lampard, so it may not suit him as much as what Rafa was trying to do.

“But he’s still clearly their No.1 centre-forward, and every time they can get him on the pitch, they look more of a threat.”
