Journalist now hints at Wolves swoop for "special" £15m Jorge Mendes client

Wolverhampton Wanderers ‘will probably go for’ Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes over the summer, according to Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Midlands outfit have long been linked with a move for the 25-year-old and could finally make a formal offer when the market reopens for business next month.

According to The Telegraph, Wolves ‘will prioritise’ the signing of a new striker ahead of next season after struggling in front of goal throughout the current campaign.

The report states that Bruno Lage’s charges are ‘set to move’ for Guedes, who is a client of Jorge Mendes, the Portuguese super-agent with very close ties to Molineux.

Valencia confirmed losses of €31.2million (£26.3m) in November last year and are projecting losses of €36m (£30.4m) for 2021/22, meaning there could be some high-profile departures from the Mestalla.

And with Guedes only having 12 months left to run on his contract, the Portugal international may be one of the first names to be moved on.

The player himself even admitted in an interview last month that he would be forced to consider his options if an appropriate offer arrived for his services.

“When the season is over, I will talk to my people, to the club,” said Guedes. “If there is a good proposal for me, and it is also good for the club, we have to look at it.”

Taylor believes Wolves are likely to move for Guedes as Lage aims to bolster his attacking options, with his compatriot Joao Palhinha also on their wish list.

He told GiveMeSport: “Goncalo Guedes is a player that they will probably go for. There’s been a long-standing interest in him, obviously he’s got that Portuguese connection; Joao Palhinha as well.”
