Journalist makes price tag revelation on Swansea City star as Wolves’ chances of recruiting him become clearer

It will cost any side interested in Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes £12m to lure him away from South Wales this summer, according to journalist Alex Crook who spoke to Give Me Sport.

The former Ipswich Town man hasn’t been short of interest from elsewhere in recent months, with Crystal Palace, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ interest being revealed by Wales Online in the latter stages of last month.

Leeds United were also previously believed to be interested in luring him to Elland Road but according to the same outlet, the Whites are yet to make contact with officials at the Swansea.com Stadium regarding a potential move for the Englishman.

And it’s now being reported that Crystal Palace are close to sealing an agreement for his services after first expressing their interest in the midfielder when he was plying his trade at Ipswich.

According to The Sun, Patrick Vieira’s side may end up paying as little as £8m for the 23-year-old who only arrived at his current side last summer.

However, his price tag is much higher according to talkSPORT reporter Crook, who isn’t optimistic about Wolves’ chances of signing him even if Palace fail to finalise an agreement for the Swan.

He said: “Flynn Downes at Swansea is somebody that they’re interested in but he will cost £12m. I’m not sure they’ve got £12m.

“I think that really the owners don’t want to put any more of their own money into the project.

“Hence the fact that they’re trying to sell one or two players.

“I think it’s a tricky summer for Wolves and it could be a difficult season as well.”

The Verdict:

£12m is a much better price for Swansea because £8m simply isn’t enough for someone who has been a key cog of Russell Martin’s machine in the last year.
