Journalist drops exciting Leeds United transfer claim as Orta could spring a "surprise"

Leeds United could sign a “bigger name” than Paris Saint-Germain striker Arnaud Kalimuendo this summer, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Yorkshire club have been heavily linked with the 20-year-old, but Jones thinks they could set their sights even higher than him in the window.

According to Calciomercato, Leeds’ focus is on signing Kalimuendo after failing to convince Club Brugge’s Charles De Ketelaere to join them.

The same outlet states that the Belgian prefers a move to AC Milan, forcing the Whites to look elsewhere in their striker search.

It would now not be a surprise to see them go all out for Kalimuendo, with L’Equipe (via Newcastle World) reporting that PSG value the Frenchman at £21m.

He spent last season on loan at Lens and impressed, scoring 12 goals in 32 Ligue 1 appearances.

Jones does not think De Ketelaere and Kalimuendo are the only names on Leeds’ radar and can see the Premier League outfit aiming even higher than the France U21 international.

Speaking to GMS about Kalimuendo and Leeds’ plans to bring in a new striker this summer, the journalist said: “I think that there are loads of different names on the radar. I think they might even surprise us and get a bigger name that suddenly doesn’t fit in at another club. I’d say that they’re not going to rush into it.”

Up front was a problem area for Leeds last season, with first-choice striker Patrick Bamford only managing to make seven starts in the Premier League.

It was a factor behind the Whites having one of the worst offensive records in the division. In total, they managed to score just 42 goals in 38 matches.
