Journalist drops big claim on "disastrous situation" now emerging for Lampard at Everton

Everton are in a ‘disastrous situation’ amid fears over maintaining their Premier League status, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Toffees are in serious danger of suffering the drop and are only separated from the relegation zone by goal difference.

Frank Lampard was appointed as Everton’s manager in January and he was tasked with guiding them away from the Premier League’s drop zone after the sacking of Rafa Benitez.

However, the former Chelsea chief has only been able to guide the Merseyside club to one domestic victory since heading into the Goodison Park dugout.

As a result, Everton have still won just two Premier League clashes since overcoming Norwich City in September.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has claimed Everton’s back four is ‘Championship level’ and the Toffees have a ‘real chance’ of being relegated from the top flight for the first time since 1951.

The Toffees’ latest setback came at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Liverpool-born defender Conor Coady heading home the winner.

Everton fans reacted to the 1-0 defeat by booing their team off the Goodison Park pitch and Lampard insisted the supporters had every right to show their discontent.

Jones has serious fears over Everton’s short-term Premier League future, with relegation being a serious possibility.

The transfer insider feels Lampard has been unable to immediately change the Toffees’ fortunes due to there being a lack of confidence in the camp.

As a result, the Merseysiders have failed to boost morale by enjoying an upturn in form under the 43-year-old’s guidance.
