Josh Taylor makes brutal Jack Catterall remark and sums up true feelings for rival

Josh Taylor has dismissed Jack Catterall's chances of becoming a world champion, stating his "style isn't enough to become world champion".

The Scotsman - who won a Commonwealth gold medal in 2014 - is set to share the squared circle with the Englishman in their heated rematch this Saturday (May 25), two years after Taylor's contentious split decision win to retain his undisputed light-welterweight titles.

Despite dominating the boxing bout in the eyes of many, including former world champion Johnny Nelson who felt Catterall should have been crowned, the title eluded him.

Catterall now seeks vindication against the Tartan Tornado - who became the first Scottish undisputed boxing champion since Ken Buchanan in 2019 - in Leeds, but even with a victory, he won't secure a world title as no belts are at stake this time around.

In an exclusive chat with Mirror Sport, Taylor, aged 33, expressed a strong aversion towards Catterall, though stopping short of outright hatred. "There's dislike towards him," he admitted. "Hate's a strong word, don't know the guy, hate's a strong word to be thrown around, but certainly there's a lot of dislike there for the time being."

Taylor believes his animosity will fuel his performance and secure another win over the English fighter at the First Direct Arena. "I think it will help me because this, you know, there's been two years of back and forth," he said.

"You know, I'm not emotionally attached, but I can use it as fuel and and motivation when I've been training and stuff, you know, I've been using it as motivation to push myself harder, to train hard and get good sparring. So it's been adding fuel to the fire rather than letting it burn the house down."
