Jose Mourinho makes subtle criticism of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United after Roma win

Jose Mourinho has aimed a subtle dig at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's failure to win a trophy at Manchester United.

United equalled their longest trophy drought for 40 years this term and Mourinho remains the last manager to win silverware at the club. Mourinho won the League Cup and the Europa League during his two-and-a-half-year stay at United.

Solskajer was eventually appointed as Mourinho's permanent successor following his dismissal. Solskjaer was sacked himself in November last year and he failed to win a trophy during his reign, despite making the 2021 Europa League final.

Mourinho managed Tottenham after United and he was appointed Roma boss in the summer. The Portuguese has won the Europa Conference League during his first season at the Italian club and he was keen to remind everyone of his success this week.

After Roma beat Feyenoord on Wednesday, Mourinho made a subtle dig at Solskjaer's failure to win a trophy at United. The 59-year-old said that he won silverware with his United side, despite them lacking quality, which was subtle criticism.

"As you know, I have won European competitions with four different clubs," said Mourinho.

"Winning with Manchester United, even though it was a Manchester United side that lacked the quality of proper United sides, winning with Manchester United is almost natural. Winning the Champions League with Porto is not normal.

"Bringing joy to people winning the Champions League with Inter. Inter is naturally a huge club, but I think it was 50 years since they had won the Champions League and bringing joy to the fans. Today, winning this competition brings joy to the people as well."
