Jose Mourinho explains why Man City boss Pep Guardiola will be 'laughing' at Manchester United

Jose Mourinho believes Pep Guardiola will be sniggering to himself at the "mess" of Manchester United and other Premier League clubs.

Manchester City secured a fourth top-flight crown last season after seeing off competition from Arsenal and Liverpool, continuing their period of dominance under Guardiola.

United found themselves way off the pace by ending the campaign in eighth position and with a goal difference of -1, though went out on a high after beating City in the FA Cup final.

There remains a sense of uncertainty at Old Trafford, however, due to Erik ten Hag's unresolved future that has played out in public. The expectation was that the Dutchman would depart after the FA Cup showpiece fixture, regardless of the scoreline, though talks are currently ongoing as the Red Devils seek a final decision.

All of this chaos only plays into City's hands ahead of the new season, with Mourinho of the opinion Guardiola won't believe his luck over what's unfolding around him. Asked for his opinion on United, Mourinho told TNT Sports: "A little improvement but more of the same I think in this moment Pep [Guardiola] laughs at the mess at other clubs."

Equally as critical of his other former clubs Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, the Portuguese coach added: "I have no idea [why Pochettino has gone]. Chelsea… I really don’t know.
