Jose Mourinho commits future to Roma after making managerial history in ECL final triumph

Jose Mourinho fully committed his future to Roma after guiding the club to their first major European trophy as they beat Feyenoord 1-0 in the Europa Conference League final.

Mourinho’s first season in charge of the Italians ended with a trophy after Nicolo Zaniolo’s dinked effort over Justin Bijlow proved to be the winner as Roma held off a spirited Feyenoord second-half display to make history.

Mourinho, who has won the Champions League, Europa League and the Uefa Cup, is the first manager to win all of Uefa’s major European trophies.

The victory also continued the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager’s perfect record in European finals, having now overseen five wins in five finals.

Speaking after the game, he said: “I’m gonna turn down any proposal. I will stay here at Roma even if there are rumours. We made history today.

“I have no doubts, I will continue as Roma manager. Many things are going through my head right now. I feel like a true Romanista.”

Roma forward Tammy Abraham speaking to BT Sport, added: “One thing I said when I came was I was going to help my team get to the final and win a trophy in my first season. We deserved it we have worked hard all year.

“I love them [the Roma fans}. From day one it has been the best. We are champions, I am happy to be part of the team. Now it is time to party and celebrate.”
