Jorge Masvidal reveals Jon Jones warned him about Colby Covington
Jorge Masvidal has revealed Jon Jones warned him about Colby Covington but he chose to ignore it.
Masvidal, 37, is due to face Covington, 34, on March 5 this Saturday night in the main event of UFC 272 in Las Vegas.
The two-time welterweight title challengers have not been on speaking terms since a falling-out after Covington allegedly didn’t pay one of Masvidal’s coaches Paulino Hernandez for training him for his interim title fight against Rafael dos Anjos in June 2018.
Tensions between the pair have escalated since, with Masvidal accusing his fellow American of still owing unpaid debts to ATT owner Dan Lambert.
And now Gamebred has also accused Covington of stealing from his former roomate Jones.
The pair briefly lived together during their time at Iowa Central Community College.
Masvidal told ESPN: “Jon Jones warned me numerous times.
“Me and Jon Jones weren’t even cool like that. We hadn’t spoken too much. But he sent a couple messages to me via our manager at the time.
“Like, ‘Man, watch this guy. He stole my clothes. My clothes don’t even fit him. My money, before we left the room, I never talked to him again.’
“Do you know what would happen if he was to run into Jon Jones? He would sprint out of the room. He would run so fast.
“But if he’s on Twitter on his computer, man, he’s popping off, Jon Jones this, Jon Jones that.
“But what would happen if they crossed at Whole Foods or something? [Covington] would jet out of there.
“I can’t respect that. If you say something, commit to it. Do it.
“Whether it was on Twitter or it was in your face. Do it. And he’s such a coward, man. I can’t wait to put an end to this charlatan.”
