Jones, Canada win finale but fail to make semis
BEIJING — Jennifer Jones didn't get the help she needed in the final draw of the women's curling round robin at the Beijing Olympics.
Jones beat Denmark's Madeleine Dupont 10-4 on Thursday to give Canada a shot at finishing in the top four and advancing to the semifinals. Those hopes were dashed about a half hour later when the other results didn't go their way.
"I'm feeling proud yet incredibly sad," Jones said.
Defending champion Anna Hasselborg of Sweden sealed Canada's fate when she beat South Korea's EunJung Kim 8-4.
Britain's Eve Muirhead beat Russia's Alina Kovaleva 9-4 and Switzerland's Silvana Tirinzoni topped Japan's Satsuki Fujisawa 8-4.
Canada finished tied with Britain and Japan at 5-4 but missed the cut due to poor draw shot challenge numbers.

Britain was eighth out of 10 teams (35.27 cm) on pre-game throws -- also called last stone draw -- while Japan was ninth (36.00) and Canada (45.44) was in last place.
The draw shot challenge determines which team starts with hammer. For tiebreaker purposes, each team's numbers are averaged with the two worst throws taken away.
Switzerland took the first seed at 8-1 and will meet Japan in the semifinals Friday. Sweden (7-2) will play Britain in the other.
Earlier in the day, Canada's Brad Gushue closed out his round-robin schedule with a 5-2 loss to Britain's Bruce Mouat.
Both teams had already qualified for the semifinals in the evening.
Gushue was scheduled to play Sweden's Niklas Edin and
