Jonathan David joins Atlético Madrid on season-long loan
Atlético Madrid have signed Canadian striker Jonathan David on loan from Italy's Juventus for the season, both clubs announced on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old from Ottawa made 46 appearances last season for the Turin squad, scoring eight goals, with one more appearance at the start of the current campaign.
David will compete for playing time in Madrid with Julián Alvarez and Alexander Sørloth, who missed early matches through a muscle injury.
He previously scored 109 goals in 232 games for France's Lille, winning Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup, before joining Juventus in 2025.
Canada's all-time leading men's scorer with 42 goals, David also happens to be joining the parent team to his hometown Atlético Ottawa in the Canadian Premier League.
Madrid's next two matches are Saturday against Athletic Club and Sept. 9 against Liverpool in the Champions League.
