There are just over two days remaining in the January transfer window and Chelsea are yet to strengthen ahead of the season run-in.

Ten points currently separate the Blues from league-leaders Manchester City and this month looked like being a decisive point in the campaign, but Thomas Tuchel has struggled to strengthen.

Chelsea have been linked with a number of high-profile targets but negotiating beneficial deals halfway through the season can be notoriously tough to do.

So it may well be a case of Tuchel making do with what he has ahead of the run-in, despite a lack of depth at left-back and a front-line that has at times this season lacked bite.

One name that has emerged as a potential solution for the latter problem is Jonathan David.

The 22-year-old is one of the most sought after talents in Europe, having scored 12 goals in 22 Ligue 1 appearances this season.

According to a report by ESPN, the American is being tracked by Arsenal, but Chelsea and Tottenham have now also joined the race for his signature.

Previous comments from the player's agent show that Chelsea could have an edge over their London rivals too.

Prior to his Lille move, David's agent, Nick Mavromaras, described a potential Chelsea transfer as part of his dreams, but that any move at that stage needed to be a sensible one.
