Jon Rahm risking Ryder Cup place as LIV Golf poster boy takes hard line over DP World Tour fines

Jon Rahm insists he won't pay his outstanding DP World Tour fines as his Ryder Cup eligibility remains in the balance.

The Spaniard played a big part in Team Europe's victory over the USA in Rome last year. But his mega-money move to LIV Golf has put his place in next year's event in doubt. Rahm was fined for playing in LIV tournaments which clashed with DP events without asking for permission from the European Tour. If he doesn't play in three more tournaments before the end of the year, then he'll lose his DP membership.

To meet the criteria, Rahm has entered the Dunhill Links Championship and the Spanish Open and Andalucia Masters in his homeland. However, the DP Tour claim that until he coughs up what he's due, then the former world no.1 will be ineligible, which will put his Ryder Cup spot in New York at risk.

"I'm not a big fan of the fines. I don't intend to pay the fines and we keep trying to have a discussion with them (the DP World Tour) about how we can make this happen. I intend to play in Spain. Whether they let me play or not is a different thing."
