Jon Dadi Bodvarsson on first Bolton Wanderers pre-season after Millwall move & promotion pressure

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson insists Bolton Wanderers are prepared for the pressure that will come from being expected to challenge for promotion and is taking pre-season preparations in his stride as looks ahead to the new campaign.

The Iceland international joined Wanderers in the January transfer window on a free transfer from Championship side Millwall. It was a successful spell for the 30-year-old as he scored seven goals in the second half of last season.

Bodvarsson and Wanderers are seeking to challenge for promotion in the upcoming campaign. They are seeking to build on the positive second half of last season which saw them secure a ninth placed finish upon return to League One.

Bodvarsson is under no illusions that there will be pressure and an expectation on Wanderers to challenge for the top six this upcoming campaign. But it is something the dressing room has too and Bodvarsson admits it is not something he and his team mates will shy away from.

He said: "I think everyone is prepared for that. There will be pressure on us and it is a big club.

“We did well last season for a team coming up from League Two and we were not far away from the play-offs, so naturally now people will have bigger expectations for us to go up.

“We have high standards for ourselves too. We have spoken about it and our goal is to be in the top six and hopefully get promotion.

“It is a massive club and that should always be the goal here. I don’t think the players will shy away from it either. It is a healthy pressure.”
