Johnnie Jackson reveals talks over Charlton Athletic transfer plans
Charlton Athletic struggled at the beginning of the League One season, dropping towards the relegation places and looking like they might end up in the fourth tier.
They’ve since risen to 15th in the table though under Johnnie Jackson and with the season nearing its end – and the Addicks unlikely to end up going either down or up – it appears that transfer plans are already being put in place to help the side kick on next season. That’s because their current boss has revealed to London News Online that transfer discussions are already ‘well underway.’
The club have improved under their new management and whilst they have suffered a drop off in recent weeks – the side couldn’t get a win between the 8th February and 12th March – they have stopped the decline again and are now sitting right in the middle of the table.
After back-to-back wins against Gillingham and Burton, the club next head to Doncaster and are aiming for yet another win. With not much to play for though, these wins could simply be used as momentum to propel them forward next year – and Jackson is already putting the preparation in place for his recruitment strategy over the summer it seems.
The Addicks were one of the favourites for a potential promotion push at the beginning of the season but instead faltered – and Jackson will want to start next season being much more like promotion contenders than relegation fodder compared to this campaign.
Speaking about his recruitment strategy and whether he speaks to owner Thomas Sandgaard then, Jackson said to London News Online: “We’re in regular contact anyway – on the phone, over Zoom and stuff like that.
