John Terry has said a big thank you to the "excellent" Chelsea supporters after the Blues beat Newcastle United 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

It has been a turbulent couple of weeks for Chelsea, with Roman Abramovich originally stating his intention to sell the club before he saw his assets in the UK frozen by the government, placing the sale of the west Londoners into doubt.

Ever since Abramovich was sanctioned, the Blues have had no choice on the pitch other than to get on with it - and that they have done.

After beating Norwich City 3-1 on Thursday - the day of the sanctions being putting into place - Chelsea recorded their second consecutive win in the Premier League on Sunday as they secured a late victory over Newcastle United.

Kai Havertz scored an 89th minute winner at Stamford Bridge - and did so in superb style. The German was found through a fantastic Jorginho lofted ball, with Havertz controlling it on his left foot and then poking it past Martin Dubravka to win Chelsea the match late on.

Former Blues captain Terry, speaking after the game, sent Havertz and the club's fan base a message on Twitter.

He said: "Great vision, great execution, superb touch and finish. Our supporters were excellent today, I stood there proud to be Chelsea.

"Well done boys and a huge thank you to our fans."
