John Percy drops big deadline day twist at Villa, it would be Lange's biggest move yet - opinion

Aston Villa have already been rather proactive in the January transfer window in terms of adding new faces to their squad such as Philippe Coutinho and Robin Olsen on loan deals, as well as signing Lucas Digne and Calum Chambers permanently.

Now that deadline day has arrived, it seems as though a late transfer twist has emerged which could lead to Johan Lange pulling off his biggest deal at the Midlands club yet.

According to a joint-report for The Telegraph from John Percy and Sam Wallace, Villa have reignited their interest in trying to sign Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma in a deal for this month or when the summer transfer window opens.

Having been linked with a move for the Mail international earlier in January, it was reported that Villa would have to pay a transfer fee in the region of £50m for the Seagulls to consider letting their star midfielder leave this month.

With that in mind, a move for Bissouma this month would surely smash through Villa’s transfer record of £33m, which they paid to sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City last year.

This season has seen the £22.5m-rated Mali midfielder rack up an overall performance rating of 7.13/10 from WhoScored, making him Brighton’s highest-rated player. It also ranks him on a level similar to Villa’s best-performing players, highlighting why the club would be keen on signing him as another midfield option.

Taking into account how Steven Gerrard has reportedly been aiming to try and sign a central midfielder this month, and that the club have signed a new player in almost every other position, a very late swoop for the Brighton maestro would surely wrap up Villa’s January window on a high note.
