John McGlynn set for Falkirk job as Raith Rovers boss heads up five year plan for Premiership return

Falkirk are close to appointing John McGlynn as their new manager.

Record Sport understands the Bairns are on the verge of agreeing a deal for the current Raith Rovers boss.

McGlynn had held discussions over a new contract at Stark's Park but he now looks set to head for the Falkirk Stadium.

Falkirk have been looking for a new boss since Martin Rennie stepped down last month.

They've sought an experienced manager who can get them out of League One and they have put an impressive five year plan in place.

The Bairns believe McGlynn can do a similar job as he did at Raith Rovers, taking them up from League One and turning them into promotion hopefuls in the Championship.

McGlynn led them to the Second Division title back in 2009 and in his second spell at Stark's Park he won League One in 2020 and lifted the Challenge Cup earlier this year.

The 60-year-old, who has also had spells in charge of Livingston and Hearts, had come under fire at Raith for their decision to sign David Goodwillie from Clyde earlier this season.

It led to an angry backlash and an embarrassing u-turn from the club.

That decision left McGlynn and the Raith board in a difficult position and has helped to open the door for Falkirk.

The Falkirk board were set to appoint Brian Rice in December before two directors made the decision to push through a move for Rennie.

It turned sour and his assistant Kenny Miller was left to take the team until the end of the season.
