John McGlynn faces David Goodwillie grilling as Raith Rovers boss won't say if he regrets signing in awkward exchange

Raith Rovers manager John McGlynn has refused to discuss whether he regrets a deadline day move for David Goodwillie, as the backlash against the signing goes on.

The former Scotland international was signed from Clyde late on deadline day, but the move has proved hugely controversial.

Goodwillie, along with former player David Robertson, was charged with rape in 2011 but the charges were later dropped by the Crown.

His accuser took the striker to civil court where a judge ruled the pair rapists and ordered damages of £100,000.

Goodwillie was released by Plymouth in the wake of the verdict, and later lost an appeal against the ruling.

He joined Clyde, in League Two at the time, and returned to full-time football with his transfer to Raith Rovers on Monday night.

But the Championship club's decision drew a backlash from fans, sponsors and staff alike with Val McDermid withdrawing her sponsorship and a number of staff resigning.

A statement declaring the move was made for "football reasons" sparked further fury ahead of the clash with Queen of the South on Monday night.

Ahead of kick-off the Raith Rovers manager was quizzed on the decision to sign Goodwillie in what was an awkward exchange.

Here's McGlynn's exchange with BBC reporter Jane Lewis on the controversial signing.

John, it's not been a great day for the club, has it? Obviously you wanted a certain striker here, David Goodwillie, he's signed and there's been a bit of a backlash. How do you reflect on the events of today?

"Well the club have made a statement and, er, you know, that's as far as I'm talking about it just now. The club made a statement and... that's... that's where we are."
