John McEnroe on Carlos Alcaraz: ‘I love him. He is moving better than Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic’

Tennis great John McEnroe is the latest to wax lyrical about Carlos Alcaraz, saying the teenager “moves maybe better than almost anyone I’ve ever seen”.

Alcaraz is one of the hottest properties in men’s tennis at the moment after winning four titles in the space of four months this year, including the ATP Masters 1000 Miami Open and Madrid Open.

He has also claimed the scalps of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas so far this campaign and currently sits at a career-high of No 6 in the ATP Rankings.

Many believe he could go on to win this year’s French Open, but he will first have to get past Zverev in the quarter-final on Tuesday.

McEnroe is impressed by the 19-year-old’s energy and movement.

“I mean, everyone loves him. I love him and he just brings like a fresh energy,” he told Reuters. “He fights and he’s just got this youthful, like, bouncing (energy). He’s got a big game.

“He moves maybe better than almost anyone I’ve ever seen. He may move better than Nadal and Djokovic right now. He may move better than anyone on the tour right now. That’s quite amazing. That’ll help win you some matches.”
