John Lundstram laughs off Rangers question over Aberdeen 'motivation' as Kris Boyd goading theory lingers

John Lundstram reckons Aberdeen don't need much motivation to play Rangers, and that winning the Viaplay Cup final could be the catalyst for an 'unbelievable' season.

Philippe Clement's men are charging towards their first chance at silverware on Sunday at Hampden with only Barry Robson's men standing in their way of ending a decade-plus long drought without winning the League Cup. They are off the back of the high of reaching the knockouts of the Europa League, but continue to trail Celtic in the Scottish Premiership. Aberdeen vs Rangers is always a clash to look forward to, despite the fact Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd threw a loaded barb last month when he suggested the Dons are always more up for it against the Light Blues than against their rivals.

Rangers could only manage a draw at Pittodrie when Clement first took his side to the North East but the prize at the end of the road at the national stadium is even bigger. And Lundstram knows every team plays like they would in a cup final against the Gers, and that he doesn't imagine the Dons went to Celtic Park planning to lose so heavily.

He told Sky Sports when asked if Boyd's assessment was fair: "I'm sure they had a game plan going in to that game as well, I'm sure it wasn't their plan to get beat such a heavy result. They always put on a performance against us which is credit to them. Hopefully they don't put in as good a performance this time and we raise our standards, we can go there and go one better than we have in the last two games.

"There's everything to play for, it could be a really good season for us. We've done fantastic to get ourselves in this position. We can start off what could be an unbelievable season if we get over the line on Sunday. First and
