John Lundstram laps up Rangers Europa League hero worship as even TV operators declare him 'best on earth'

Rangers hero John Lundstram didn't play a single minute of their 2-0 win over Dundee United that delayed Celtic's title party.

But the man who sent the Gers to the Europa League Final was worshipped on Sunday afternoon after his famous goal.

With the semi-final on Thursday finely poised at 2-2 on aggregate, Lundstram reacted first to a loose ball and drove the ball past RB Leipzig keeper Peter Gulasci.

That sent the Light Blues into the May 18 showpiece in Seville where they'll meet Eintracht Frankfurt.

And so it was a carnival atmosphere inside Ibrox when United came to town three days later – despite the prospect of handing the league to their bitter rivals with anything bar a win.

Lundstram was named among the substitutes and with Rangers cruising in the second half from the moment James Tavernier opened the scoring from the penalty spot.

But there was no need to bring him on with young guns like Charlie McCann and Alex Lowry preferred by Gio van Bronckhorst.

Not like that stopped the Ibrox crowd from singing his Belinda Carlisle-themed chant about being the "best on earth".

The "Silky Scouser" was saluted almost on loop from kick-off with huge cheers as he went out to warm up.

And the same went for when he emerged for a lap of appreciated around all four corners of Ibrox, after a season in which domestic disappointment could yet be eclipsed by a once-in-a-lifetime achievement in just 10 days.

Even Rangers TV got in on the act, displaying a name card at the bottom of the screen with his number four and the caption "Best on Earth".
