John Lundstram 'Celtic fan' suspicion flagged by old pal but Rangers star cleared for one key reason

Former Sheffield United ace Daniel Lafferty admits he was surprised to see John Lundstram join Rangers - as he had always suspected he was "more of a Celtic fan".

Lundstram left the Premier League side behind in the summer of 2021 following their relegation from the English top flight after running down his contract at Bramall Lane. He has since become a firm fan favourite with the Light Blues' support and has returned to his best form since the arrival of Philippe Clement.

Lundstram is locked in contract talks over his Rangers future with his current deal set to expire in the summer, and former Blades teammate Lafferty has talked up his old pal while admitting the switch caught him off guard. Lafferty - who came through the Celtic academy and is currently with Northern Irish side Institute - reckons that the move for the 30-year-old to Ibrox brought an end to his suspicion over his allegiance north of the border.

The self-confessed Celtic diehard told The Sun: "When I was at Sheffield I did have an inkling that Lunny was a bit more of a Celtic fan although when the chance came to join Rangers he wasn't going to turn it down. He's done unbelievably well for them.

"Technically, John is ridiculous. Left foot, right foot, he's so comfortable. He's also deceptively quick when he covers the ground.

"Lunny's been brilliant for Rangers the last couple of years and delivered in some huge games, including big European games. He's got real personality as a footballer, that steeliness about him.
