John Kiely, Derek Lyng and Henry Shefflin to lead teams into 2024 inter-county season

John Kiely, Derek Lyng and Henry Shefflin are all set to remain at the helm in their respective posts for the 2024 inter-county hurling season.

Kiely, who guided Limerick to a fourth All-Ireland title in a row and a fifth of his reign, will be reappointed for a further two years at tonight's meeting of the Limerick county board.

Since taking over in late 2016, Kiely has presided over a period of astonishing success for the Limerick hurlers and the details of his new term will be finalised by the county management committee this evening.

Next year, Limerick will have the opportunity to become the first team to complete five-in-a-row in the All-Ireland senior hurling championship.

Last night, Derek Lyng's management team was formally ratified to lead Kilkenny into the 2024 season.

Lyng, who guided Kilkenny to the All-Ireland final in his first season in charge, was appointed in late 2022 on a three-year term and he will carry the same backroom team into 2024.

Kilkenny GAA said in a statement: "At this evening's County Board Meeting in UPMC Nowlan Park, Derek Lyng was ratified as Kilkenny Manager for the 2024 season. Peter Barry, Michael Rice, Conor Phelan and Peter O’Donovan continue as selectors."

Meanwhile, it is understood that Henry Shefflin's term as Galway hurling manager has been extended to 2025.

Under Shefflin, Galway have reached successive All-Ireland semi-finals, losing to champions Limerick on both occasions.

He recently made a high-profile backroom team appointment, with former Tipperary manager Eamon O'Shea joining the ticket.
